1. How to test and assess pilling




The method of testing the pilling performance of fabrics varies according to the material of the fabric, the use of the fabric, and the place where the product is exported. For example, Random Turnble Pilling Test, Martindale PiHing Test, ICI PiUing Test and Elastomefic are available PadPining Test and circular trajectory pilling instrument method.



Test method



The fabric is rubbed with various friction methods for a certain number of times to make it fuzz and pilling.


Circular trajectory Method (GB/T 4802.1-2008)

Method overview:


A circular sample with a diameter of 113mm is taken, and the test surface is mounted outwards on the clamp. There are two kinds of abrasiades on the grinding table, among which the fabric and nylon brush friction pilling, and the standard fabric abrasiades friction pilling.


Select the corresponding test parameters according to the fabric type, and the list is as follows:

Modified Martindale Method (GB/T 4802.2-2008)


Used for pilling test of bedding

Method overview:



Under the specified pressure, the circular specimen is rubbed against the fabric itself or the standard wool abrasives in the trajectory of the Li Sharu figure, and the specimen can rotate freely about the central axis perpendicular to the specimen plane.

Pilling box method (GB/T 4802.3-2008)


Used for pilling test of woolen or wool-like fabrics.

Method overview:




The sample is mounted on a polyurethane tube and arbitrarily turned in a cork-lined wooden case with a constant speed. In the absence of agreement or regulation, it is recommended to turn 7200 revolutions (i.e. 2 hours) for worsted fabrics and 14,400 revolutions (i.e. 4 hours) for worsted fabrics.




After a specified number of flips, the fuzz and/or pilling performance is visually described and evaluated.
